Green Day and U2 to cover The Skids for Katrina Relief
As promised, Green Day has unveiled their latest plan, which entails recording a track for a charity with rock superstars U2. The band explained:
In the coming weeks, we'll be going into the studio with U2 to record a cover of the song "The Saints Are Coming," which was originally recorded by Scottish punk band, The Skids. We were asked by U2 to record the song with them to benefit Music Rising, an organization that replaces instruments musicians lost in Hurricane Katrina's wake.
Originally formed in 1977, the Skids were a Scottish punk band. Their biggest success was the single "Into The Valley" recorded in 1978. The band released a handful of records over a three year span before calling it a day in 1981. Vocalist and primary songwriter Stuart Adamson went on to form Big Country and passed away in 2001.
