Doherty fined over attack on reporter

BRITISH pop star Pete Doherty was today fined £750 ($1854) and ordered to pay £250 ($618) compensation after he admitted kicking the hand of a female radio reporter.

Doherty had pleaded not guilty to a charge of assault by beating but his lawyer Sean Curran said he changed his plea on the day the trial was due to start after watching television footage of the March 23 attack.

Prosecutor Sirah Abraham said Doherty, the ex Libertine who now fronts Babyshambles, kicked out and hit the hand of BBC Radio 1's Trudi Barber, knocking a microphone from it.

She said a doctor prescribed her painkillers after she suffered pain to her hand which spread to her shoulder, but she still lost sleep over it.

The attack occurred outside Thames Magistrates Court after Doherty, who is in a relationship with supermodel Kate Moss, appeared on drugs charges.
