Panic at the Disco's new album is inspired by their parents

The emo rockers are currently working on their as-yet untitled follow-up to this year's 'Pretty, Odd' and say they have been heavily influenced by artists their mothers and fathers listened to when they were growing up.

Frontman Brandon Urie explained: "We were listening to some bands that maybe we had heard from our parents but never discovered for ourselves.

"There's so much music we haven't discovered from 30 years ago or more. We're still trying to pick up on that stuff."

Despite having a gap of almost three years between their first two albums, Brandon promises fans will have a much shorter wait for their next album because they have been working so prolifically.

He added to Billboard magazine: "We have between 15 and 18 main ideas for songs we want to get started. We've been writing non-stop since we finished recording. I guess we kind of lost our anxiety of writing on tour. We never used to do that. We used to think we needed an environment to sit down and create, but we realized all we need is a few instruments and the four of us, just throwing ideas together."

Plushgun

Where did Plushgun come from? The band was started by Daniel Ingala in the cramped confines of his overpriced and undersized bedroom in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. While writing a song on his acoustic guitar, Daniel had an idea: “What if I added some synths to this?” And synths he added, creating a song called “Just Impolite”, which he posted to his Myspace page in early 2007. Within months, through word of mouth, the project spread from one fan to another until it was heard by RagTag Productions, who approached Daniel about using his music in their popular web-tv series, “We Need Girlfriends.” Dan also posted a few songs on OurStage.com, which enables music fans to discover emerging music and rate the music. Plushgun quickly hit #1 on OurStage’s Alternative Rock channel in January 2008.

After writing "Just Impolite," Ingala found himself needing a band name. For this he asked the advice of Stephen Colbert, before the taping of an episode of the Colbert Report. Colbert suggested "The Relevant Elephants." And by that he meant "Plushgun."

When people started to demand live shows, Dan was scared. It was just him and a computer, and computers tend to be terrible showmen. So he asked for help from past acquaintance, guitarist, and showman extraordinaire Taylor Armstrong to bring this project to the live stage, and the fans who’ve caught these live shows are still dancing!

How to describe Plushgun? The songs are nostalgic, poppy, dance-able, and surprisingly deep, not to mention addictive. Whether they are about chasing dying romances ("Just Impolite"), high-school anxiety ("How We Roll") or angst-riddled anthems for a lost generation ("Dancing in a Minefield,") Plushgun tackles these themes with unabashed catchiness in an electrolicious soundscape.

Look for Plushgun’s debut album in January 2009. In the meantime, the 4 songs you hold in your hand will be released digitally on August 19, followed by a video for “Just Impolite” directed by Tyler Shields. But, if you can’t wait until September, you can check out the first video for “Just Impolite” featuring a brawl between Tyler Shields and Rainn Wilson here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ld-YqPs2m3U

The Russian government outlawing 'emo'

The Russian government is in the process of drafting a law to make emo and goth music illegal, says the Moscow Times.

"The Duma last month held a parliamentary hearing on a raft of proposed amendments contained in a document called 'Government Strategy in the Sphere of Spiritual and Ethical Education,'" a copy of which was obtained by The Moscow Times.

Among other measures, the proposed legislation apparently calls for heavy regulation of emo web sites and for banning young people dressed like emos from entering schools and government buildings.

According to the bill, The "negative ideology" of emo culture may push young people toward depression and social withdrawal, and the movement carries a significant risk of suicide, especially for young girls."

The Times says "The bill also outlines what it calls a 'spiritual and ethical crisis' facing Russian youth, including the high rate of alcohol abuse, teen abortions and 'negative youth movements.'

Just leave it to the Russians to try to avoid change. Hey, its why you lost the cold war you stupid fucks.

Emo Band Accused of Ripping Off Counting Crows' Artwork

Alphabet Arm, the design studio responsible for designing a logo for Counting Crows back in 2005, has accused pop punk band Cute Is What We Aim For of copying their design.

On their blog, Alphabet Arm wrote:

<quote>
At the beginning of last year, Cute Is What We Aim For's management contacted us about doing some merch designs for the band. They informed us the band liked our work, namely a design we did for Counting Crows back in 2004 or 2005. After some back and forth over pricing we were informed they were going to concentrate on the merch design in-house and contact us later. We never heard anything back. Just this morning we came across the cover of their new album… coincidence? You decide.
</quote>

The logos are strikingly similar, as anyone can see with a quick glance. Alphabet Arm has not announced whether it plans to pursue legal action against Cute Is What We Aim For, though it's pretty obvious the studio would have a tight case.

You can read the article and view the logos here.

Teenager Sam Leeson hanged himself over 'Emo' taunts

This is a sad article we came across. He was bullied on the social networking site Bebo for being 'emo' and eventually he hanged himself from the taunts. Some people just don't understand and should leave other alone.

You can read the article in full here.

<quote>
Sam Leeson was targeted because he was a fan of 'Emo' music, which is popular with many children who feel left out of the mainstream.

The term originally meant 'emotional hardcore' and was an offshoot of punk music before it evolved into something more popular.

In common with many 'emos', Sam wore alternative black or dark clothing and had long hair, which attracted the bullies.

The boy, who had four sisters and two brothers, was found hanged in his bedroom by his mother and 12-year-old sister, after months of abuse which was only uncovered after his death.

His father Christopher, 39, of Hardwicke, in Gloucestershire, yesterday pleaded for other victims of bullies to not give in.

Mr Leeson, who is a builder, said: "Please talk to someone. Change your email address and change your mobile.

"Even change your school but don't destroy the lives of your mother, father, brothers or sisters.

"Mostly think of the people who will be putting flowers and cards on the gates of your school and trying to make sense of a pointless waste of a life.

"Bullies are cowards and you can beat them. Do it for Sam's sake."

He added: "I never knew things were so bad for Sam. I feel so sad he didn't speak to me."

Sam, who was a pupil at Severn Vale School in Gloucester, was found hanged in his bedroom on June 5.

Sam's laptop computer is now being examined by Gloucestershire Police and an investigation into his death has begun.

No one from Bebo was available for comment.
